  • Notes
    • According to Iowa, County Marriages, 1838-1934, Florence's name was "Florence May Hughes Bradley." Her father's name was John Hughes. It would appear that Florence had a prior marriage to someone named Bradley.

The 1910 census lists Edward, 40, in his first marriage, living with his wife of 9 years Florence, 38, (her second marriage) and (apparently her) daughters Orlena B., 19, and Helen B., 15. Both of the daughters have a middle initial "B" which could indicate their biological father who was named Bradley. The census taker has assigned the surname Aussieker to the girls, however. Edward's occupation is hard to read, but seems to refer to his being a traveling salesman for a "Lighting Plant" -- perhaps an early electrical company. Daughter Orlena is reported to be a stenographer working for "Credit Guide." 1910 U.S. Census, 9th Precinct, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA ( T624, Roll 411, stamped p. 151).
    • The 1915 Iowa state census reports that Florence Aussieker, 40, was a married woman with an 8th grade education who had been born in Iowa. 1915 Iowa State Census, State Historical Society of Iowa (Roll 294, p. a918).

In 1920 the census lists Edward A, 49, a miller working in a cereal mill, living with his wife, Florence M, 47, and daughter Charlotte, 7, together with 4 roomers. 1920 U.S. Census, Ward 12, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 625, Roll 500, stamped p. 75).
    • The Oakland City Directory (1928) lists "Aussieker Edw A (Florence M) clk Diamond Gro Co h2947 Madeline." Immediately above that listing is their daughter: "Aussieker Charlotte M stdt r2947 Madeline." Oakland [CA] City Directory, p. 292 (R. L. Polk & Co., Oakland, CA: 1928).
    • The 1940 census shows the family living in California. It records that Edward A Aussieker, 70, was living with his wife Florence, 69, their daughter Charlotte Gordon, 28, and her two children, Gloria, 5, and Jerry G, 2, both born in CA. Edward was working as a Grocery merchant; Charlotte was employed as an office secretary. 1940 U.S. Census, Oakland, Alameda Cnty, CA (T 627, Roll 436, stamped p. 1170B).
