    • In 1920, Verner E Simmons, 23, lived with his wife Marie L, also 23, in Dayton, Ohio, where he was employed as a street car conductor and she worked as a department store retail clerk. 1920 U.S. Census, Dayton, Montgomery Cnty, OH (T 625, Roll 1421, ED 131, stamped p. 60-B).

      The 1930 census lists Verner Simmons, 33, living with his wife of 19 years, Marie, 33, and two children: son Robert, 7; and a niece, Betty Balon, 5. All had been born in Ohio. Verner was a laborer for a grain and lumber retail merchant. 1930 U.S. Census, Franklin Twsp, Warren Cnty, OH (T 626, ED 83-7, stamped p. 106). The 1940 census reveals that Verner had advanced to a foreman at his lumber yard.
    • Obituary, Dayton [OH] Daily News, p. 31 (13 May 1974):
      "Simmons, Mrs. Marie, age 77, formerly of Carlisle, Ohio, died Saturday [11 May] at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She was the widow of Verner E. Simmons. She was a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia of St. Mary Church, Franklin, Ohio. No immediate survivors. Mass of the Resurrection will be entoned Tuesday [14 May] .... Burial in Woodhill Cemetery...."
