  • Notes
    • The 1930 census records his parents "E. Willard" Long, 55, and "Mabelle," 50, along with 2 children: "Benjamin E," 22; and "Marie A," 19. Ernest was still a carpenter, although apparently building houses; Benjamin was an elevator operator; and Marie was a stenographer for what may have been an automobile insurance organization. 1930 U.S. Census, Mt. Rainier, Prince Georges Cnty, MD (T 626, Roll __, ED 41, stamped p. 183).
    • The 1940 census lists Benjamin Long, 32, living with his wife Eunice, 35, and two children: Benjamin, 2; and Patricia May, 2 months. The baby was born in the District of Columbia; the rest of the family, in Maryland. Benjamin was employed as a commercial painter for a "paint company."
