  • Notes
    • The 1880 census lists William, 6 years old, living with his parents "Snauffer, Rich F" and Caroline, and 3 other siblings. 1880 U.S. Census, Dist. 1, Baltimore, Baltimore Cnty, MD (T 9, Roll 495, stamped p. 406).

The 1900 census reports William, 25 yrs old, born in Maryland in Oct 1874, living with his parents Richard and Carrie and 6 siblings. William's occupation is listed as a "day laborer." 1900 U.S. Census, 12th Ward, Baltimore, Baltimore Cnty, MD (T 623, Roll 612, stamped p. 287).

      According to the 1912 BALTIMORE CITY DIRECTORY, p. 1909 (R.L. Polk & Co; 1912), "Wm W" Snouffer was a "lab[orer]" who resided at 314 W 28th N, in Baltimore.

In his 12 Sep 1918 World War I draft registration card, William reported that he was 44 years old, born 22 Oct 1874, living at 312 W. 28th St, Baltimore, Md, and that his occupation was a "lathe hand" working for Bertlet & Hayward. He was classified as having "tall" height and a "medium" build.

The 1920 census lists William, 45, living with his wife Ella, 48, his father Richard T, 70, his brother Charles, 42, and daughter Pearl Orem, 19, and her 11-month old son, "Lorraine" Orem. 1920 U.S. Census, 12th Ward, Baltimore, Baltimore Cnty, MD (T 625, Roll 658, stamped p. 148).

William W. Snouffer provided information for his father's death certificate, stating that they were living together at 312 W 28th St, in Baltimore, MD at the time of his death, 1 Apr 1924. City of Baltimore, Health Department, Death Certificate No. D 85504 (2 Apr 1924).

1930 census lists William Snouffer as a 55 year old coal and ice merchant, born in Maryland, living with his wife Ella, 62, in Baltimore, MD. 1930 U.S. Census, 12th Ward, Baltimore, Baltimore Cnty, MD (T 626, Roll 856, stamped p. 23).

William's death certificate (City of Baltimore, Health Department, No. E 81982 [1932]) states that he was born 22 Oct 1874 in Ellicott City, MD, that his father was Richard T. Snouffer, born in Frederick, MD, and that his mother was Caroline Ginneman, born in Ellicott City, MD. The information was provided by Mrs. Nellie E. Jones, probably a maternal relative of William's mother Caroline. The certificate states that William's wife was "Ella Snouffer." It further says that William was in business for himself, and his business was in "ice coal & wood" [although the last word wood is very difficult to read]. His brother Charles' death certificate says that he worked as a laborer in William's "coal business" and that the two brothers lived together at 2809 Huntingdon Ave.

Barbara Allshouse also states that William is buried in Sec. I, Lot 15, St. Mary's Cemetery, Hampden, MD.
    • (Research): Barbara Hacker Allshouse writes that William's brother "Charles shows up living with his brother William and their father Richard on the 1920 census." She notes futher that they are all buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hampden, Maryland.
