    • Obituary, The Oregonian, p. D-9 (28 Oct 2018):
"Katharine was born in Portland Oct. 24, 1938 to Dr. Arch W. and Fran Diack.
"Katharine attended Hillside and Catlin schools and Oberlin College before earning her Bachlor's degree from the University of Oregon in Art History. After a short course at the University of Oslo, she went to the University of California Berkeley where she earned a Masters degree in Social Work.
"She returned to Portland to work at Visiting Nurses Association. She became involved in establishing the Marquam Nature Trail Park and served as the group's president for several years. In 1968, she married William C. Snouffer, but they divorced in 1989. Katharine earned a Master's degree in Urban Studies/Gerontology from PSU in 1983. Throughout her life, she pursued interests in painting, music, travel, performing arts, native plants and mycology, hiking, biking, family history and, always, reading.
"Katharine passed away unexpectedly at her home, leaving behind a house full of books, her watercolors and sketches, and a calendar full of itineraries, art classes and dates for performances and gatherings with friends.
"She is survived by many cousins, including Sam Diack (Conni) of Boring; her sister, Frey Stearns (Doug) of Hillsboro; niece, Margaret Mansker (Robert) of Fairfax, Va.; and nephew, David Stearns (Kristen Beneski) of Seattle. Her estate makes many contributions to charities and you are urged to do the same in her memory...."
