    • The 1900 census lists his father Allen R. Slocum, 39, born in Aug, 1860, in Illinois, living with his wife of 18 years, "Francis," 36, born Jun 1863 in Maryland, and Kansas-born children: May L., 17, born Feb 1883; John B., 15, born Oct 1885; Allen L., 13, born Mar 1887; Fay B., 10, born June 1889; and Nora E., 9, born April 1891. Allen worked as an insurance agent. 1900 U.S. Census, Louisburg Twsp, Montgomery Cnty, KS (T 623, Roll 491, stamped pages 258B & 259A).

      In the 1910 census the family is listed as follows: "Allen R" Slocum, 49, and his wife "Frances L," 47, and children: "Lena M[ay]," 26; John B, 25; Fay B, 19; Nora C, 17; Dorothy E, 2; and Margie S, 9 months. Allen & Frances had been married 28 years; Frances had born 7 children, all of whom were still alive. Allen worked as a real estate agent; May or Lena was a school teacher; and John was an insurance agent. 1910 U.S. Census, Louisburg Twsp, Montgomery Cnty, KS (T 624, Roll 449, stamped p. 19B).

      On his 12 Sep 1918 WW I Draft Registration card, John indicated that his full name was "John Benjamin Slocum," he was born 10 Sep 1884, he lived in Elk City, Montgomery Cnty, KS, and that he was the manager of The Elk City Gas & Oil Co.

      Wedding announcement, South Kansas [Independence, KS] Tribune, p. 8 (1 Oct 1919):
      "Wedding Bells.
      "Announcements were received here yesterday of the marriage of John B. Slocum and Miss Nellie Kniffen, both of this city, which occurred Monday in Denver, Colo. The latter and her mother, Mrs. Flavilla Kniffen have been spending the summer in Colorado and Mr. Slocum motored there two weeks ago in his car.
      "Elk City Sun [no date]."

      The Social Security Death Index records that John Slocum (SSN 512-07-3108; issued in Kansas) was born 10 Sep 1884 and died in Apr 1963 while residing in Kansas.
