      Funeral services for Dr. William C. Covey, 62, 509 Woodlawn Ave., will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Friday in the First Baptist Church. Dr. A. J. Cook will officiate and Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
      Cr. Covey, past president of the Raleigh County Medical Society and a direct descendant of the first settlers in Raleigh County died at 9 p.m. Wednesday in a local hospital of a heart condition.
      The body will remain at the Rose Funeral home until 1:30 p.m. Friday.
      Members of the Men's Bible Class of the First Baptist Church will be pallbearers.
      Dr. Covey was born at Lester June 28, 1892, a son of George and Elvira Riffe Covey, both deceased.
      Dr. Covey was graduated from the University of Maryland in 1917. He served as a captain overseas during World War I.
      After the war, Dr. Covey served as a general practitioner with the Winding Gulf Collieries Co. He served the area as a physician for 28 years until his 1945 heart attack. On Dec. 18, 1942, he was elected president of the Raleigh County Medical Society for a one-year term.
      Dr. Covey was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and a director of the Beckley National Bank.
      He is survived by his wife, the former Etta Trump of Bolt; a son, Dr. William C. Covey Jr. of Beckley; a grandson, William C. Covey III; two brothers, G. D. Covey of Beckley and T. H. Covey of Glen Daniel; and three sisters, Mrs. Roxie Worley of Glen White, Mrs. Sallie Brown of Piney View and Mrs. Allie Williams of Smith Creek.
