    • Research:
There are census data and www.Findagrave data discussing Alexander & "Eliza" Keith families that are temptingly close to these ancestors; but because the census data do not include either a Julia or a Jacob as children, the data are not persuasive.

E.G.: The 1850 census lists "Alexander Keese," 55, living with his wife "Elisabeth," 47, and the following children: "Elisabeth," 20; "Julian," 18; Sarah A, 16; and Charles, 14. All family members were born in Pennsylvania. Alexander was a laborer. 1850 U.S. Census, Union Twsp, Adams Cnty, PA (M 432, Roll 743, stamped p. 268-B). The Ancestry.com record of this census report suggests that the surname was "Keith," not Keese; but no authority is cited to support that assertion. The facts that neither Julia nor Jacob is mentioned, and that Elizabeth, Sarah A, and Charles are mentioned, present problems. Julia and Jacob both may have emancipated from the family home, living elsewhere. But no family records refer to the siblings Elizabeth, Sarah A, or Charles, so their presence in this census is a puzzle. Otherwise, the dates for Alexander, his wife Elizabeth, and daughter "Julian" all seem to fit.

Also, the 1880 census shows an Alexander, 80, a retired farmer, living with his wife "Eliza," 75, a "retired house keeper" [is that possible??]. No other family members lived in the household. Alexander was born in Virginia, as were his parents. Elizabeth and her parents were born in Pennsylvania. 1880 U.S. Census, Wapsinonoc Twsp, Muscatine Cnty, IA (T 9, Roll 358, stamped p. 2). But www.Findagrave.com indicates that this Alexander Keith and wife Eliza "Ball" Keith died and were buried in Iowa. Other Ancestry data suggest her maiden name was Ball, and they had a son "Albert Franklin" Keith. (See Findagrave 49750450.)
