  • Notes
    • At the time of the 1880 census, her father lived in Virginia, next door to his father. The census shows "Crousehorn P. Elbert," 32, living with his wife "Annie J," 36, and children: Elizabeth, 9; "Murtie," 7; Robert, 6; William, 4; and "Flora," [Florence] 2. Pleasant Elbert was employed as a farmer. 1880 U.S. Census, Rappahannock, Fauquier Cnty, VA (T 9, Roll 1365, stamped p. 244B).

      N. Bateman & P. Selby, HISTORICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ILLINOIS AND HISTORY OF KENDALL COUNTY, p. 960 (1914):
"William Campbell *** was married in Kendall County, January 1, 1901, to Miss Florence C.[sic] Croushorn, who was born in Fauquier County, Va., August 21, 1877, a daughter of Pleasant E. and Anna J. (Kerr) Croushorn, who located in Aurora, Kane County, Ill., in 1893, the mother dying there February 13, 1908, the father now residing in Kendall County.*** "

The 1910 Illinois census lists Florence as a 32-year old wife of William Campbell, and notes that she had been married 9 years, having born 5 children, 4 of whom were still living. It shows her living with William who was a farmer and owned a general farm. The children listed were Berniece [sic], 7; Elizabeth, 4; Helen, 3; and Robert, 1. In addition to the family, the census records that the Campbells had an 18-yr old female "servant" and a 29-yr old "hiredman" living in the home. 1910 U.S.Census, Kendall twsp, Kendall Cnty, IL (T 624, Roll 295, stamped p. 234).

The 1920 census lists 41-yr old William as head of household, his wife Florence, 42, and 7 children: Berneice, Elizabeth, Helen, Robert, Russell, Corinne and Donald. Living with them was her sister Elizabeth Croushorn, 45. 1920 U.S.Census, Kendall twsp, Kendall Cnty, IL (T 625, Roll 380, stamped p. 42).

The 1930 census shows Florence, 52, living with her husband William, 52, and children Robert, 21, Russell, 18, Corinne, 15, and Donald, 14. 1930 U.S. Census, Kendall Twsp, Kendall Cnty, IL (T 626, Roll 522, ED 9, p. 4B).

Kendall County Record [?] -- Article:
"ANNUAL M.B. MOTHER'S DAY BANQUET HELD FRIDAY -- Na-au-say -- The annual M.B. club Mother's day banquet was held at the Plattville Methodist church Friday [May, 1940 ?]. Mrs. Alvin Christian, was the hostess. Forty-two guests sat down at the tables.... After the dinner the guests went to the Christian home.... Mrs. Frank Fiddyment read the following in memory of a memory: 'I am quite sure that the memories of one of our most loved members is very close in the heart of each one. Florence Campbell was one of our charter members. Long years ago, close to thirty-five, when each year would bring new babies, it was such fun to bring them to M.B. club. Sometimes there were more children than mothers. We never thought of leaving them at home, and Florence was always with us with her babies. Florence loved flowers, had many of them in her home and yard. We miss her o, so much [sic]. But God has called her home and we are sure she is happy with her beautiful flowers.'"
