    • The 1900 census shows his father "Snauffer, Jas. J," 39, born in Dec 1860 in Maryland, employed as a "Gro. salesman," living with his wife of 17 years, Anna E, 39, b. May 1861 in Iowa, and their 5 Iowa born children: William D, 16, b. Apr 1884, and employed in "hardware sales"; Edward M, 14, b. May 1886; Arthur J, 12, b. Dec 1887; Bessie E, 8, b. Dec 1891; and Charles, 1 month, b. Apr 1900. A servant also lived with them. Living only eight houses away was Anna's mother Charlotte and a number of her siblings. 1900 U.S. Census, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 623, Roll 444, stamped pp. 302B-303A).

      The 1910 Iowa census lists "Charles W." Snouffer as a 10-yr old boy living at home with his parents and siblings Edward and Bessie. 1910 U.S. Census, 9th Prct, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 624, Roll 411, stamped p. 155).
    • Charles served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. Beneath his photo in A.F. Dotson, HONOR ROLL, LINN COUNTY IOWA, p. 146 (The Torch Press, Cedar Rapids, IA; 1925 ?), appears the following: "Chas. W. Snouffer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Born Cedar Rapids, Iowa, April, 1900. Son of Anna and Joshua Snouffer. Enlisted October, 1918. U. S. Navy." See also: rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ia/linn/military/ww1c.txt (accessed Sep 2005).
    • The 1920 census reports that Charles W., 19, was living with his parents, "Josiah" J. Snouffer and Anna. Charles' occupation is as a price clerk for an electrical supply house. 1920 U.S. Census, 17th Precinct, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 625, Roll 500, stamped pp. 190-191).
    • The 1930 census lists Charles as a 29 year old man, born in Iowa, living with his family in St. Paul, Ramsey Cnty, MN. 1930 U.S. Census, St. Paul, Ramsey Cnty, MN (T 626, Roll 1119, ED 103, p. 16B).
    • In 1940 the census shows Charles W. Snouffer, 40, born in Iowa, living with his wife Claire A, 39, b. in MI, and the following Minnesota-born children: Richard C, 12; Raymond W, 12; James E, 10; and Gerald A, 7. Charles was employed as a "claim clerk" for an "electric supply" company. 1940 U.S. Census, St. Paul, Ramsey Cnty, MN (T 627, Roll 1998, stamped p. 1774 B and p. 1775).
    • The SS Death Index provides that "Chas. Snouffer" (SSN 468-03-1488; issued in Minnesota) was born 20 Apr 1900 and died Dec 1986.

      Obituary, Press-Gazette, Green Bay, WI (15 Dec 1986):
      "Charles W. Snouffer, 86, 710 Royal Blvd., died Saturday evening [13 Dec] in a local hospital. He was born April 20, 1900 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to the late Joshua and Anna Snouffer. In 1918 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He moved to St. Paul, Minn. in 1920.
      "He married Claire Ihrig on Oct. 30, 1926. They lived in Fargo, N.D., and Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn.
      "Mr. Snouffer was transferred to Green Bay in 1948 as branch administrative service manager of Westinghouse Electric Supply Co. He retired in 1965 after 32 years of service.
      "Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Kathryn (Kathy) Schafer, Green Bay; four sons, Richard and Gerald, both of Green Bay; Raymond and James, both of St. Paul, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
      "He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Claire; one son; one sister; two brothers.
      "*** Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 3:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church....*** "
