  • Notes
    • The 1920 census lists "May," 30, living with her husband "Stanley," a 26-yr old helper with the railroad, and their daughter Mary Ann, 1; together with May's mother, Annie Franzen, the 51-yr old "head" of the household, and with May's sister Martha, 24, and her husband T--?--t Collins, 25, a machinist for the railroad. Stanley is recorded as born in Iowa, as well his parents; May is recorded as born in Iowa, but her father was Danish and her mother was German. 1920 U.S. Census, 17th Precinct, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 625, Roll 500, stamped p. 188).

According to Gervaise Dynes-Wolak: "Mayme was a housewife. She divorced Stanley after 6 years of marriage and moved in with her mother to raise Mary Ann."

Regarding the family of her husband's grandparents Joshua Jacob and Ann (White) Snouffer, Bertha Ina (Newens) Snouffer -- wife of JJ's grand-nephew William D. Snouffer -- wrote:
"I don't know too much about the family of Joshua Jacob Snouffer, born 2-24-1826. His wife was Ann, and their children were: ...
"Bud - Joshua Jacob Jr. - 4 children....
"Bud's son John Stanley Snouffer jr -- was also known as "young Bud" - who was married to Mayme Fransen. Mayme and Stanley had one daughter, Mary Ann -- Stanley drank so much that Mayme divorced him early in their marriage." (Undated letter from Bertha Ina (Newens) Snouffer to her son Robert Snouffer, probably in the early 1970s; punctuation added for clarity.)

According to the Social Security Death Index, Mayme (SSN 479-07-8957; issued in Iowa) was born 7 Sep 1888 and died in Dec 1972 while residing in Cedar Rapids, IA.
