May 1861 in Iowa, and their 5 Iowa born children: William D, 16, b. Apr 1884, and employed in "hardware sales"; Edward M, 14, b. May 1886; Arthur J, 12, b. Dec 1887; Bessie E, 8, b. Living only eight houses away was Anna's mother Charlotte and a number of her siblings. 1900 U.S. Census, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 623, Roll 444, stamped pp. 302B-303A).

The 1910 Iowa census records "Edward M." Snouffer as a 24-yr old single man, whose occupation was as a "salesman," living at home with his parents and siblings Bessie and Charles. 1910 U.S. Census, 9th Prct, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 624, Roll 411, stamped p. 155).

The 1920 census lists Edward as a 33-yr old clothing salesman, living with his wife Bertha, 33, and daughter Anna Mae, 8. The census reports that Ed was born in Iowa, his father in Maryland and his mother in Iowa; it reports that Bertha's father was born in Germany and her mother in Iowa. Anna Mae was born in Iowa. 1920 U.S. Census, 16th Precinct, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 625, Roll 500, stamped p. 158).

The 1930 census shows Edward as a 43 year old salesman in the "men's ready to wear" business, living with his wife Bertha, 43, and daughter Anna M, 18. 1930 U.S. Census, Cedar Rapids, 19th Prct, Linn Cnty, IA (T 626, Roll 665, ED 69, p. 9A).

According to church records, Edward served as a Deacon for the First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, IA, from 14 Jan 1934 to 31 Dec 1935, and again, 13 Jan 1939 through 31 Dec 1941. The same records indicate he claimed he was a church member "all my life" and that his occupation was as a salesman at Louie's Clothes.

The Iowa City Press Citizen, p. 1 (1 June 1948), reported:
"An explosion in a downtown Cedar Rapids clothing store shortly before noon today shattered five plate glass windows and scattered glass fragments into the street and sidewalk, injuring one person.
"Two clerks in the store were thrown down by the blast but were not injured.
"A fire captain said the explosion may have been caused by a pocket of gas in a basement storeroom....
"Ed Snouffer, manager of the clothing store, said he was standing at the head of the stairs to the basement when the blast occurred.
"'I was blown right up into the air,' he said.
"W.J. VanPelt, an employe [sic], was seated at the time and was thrown to the floor.
"The unidentified passerby was cut in the head by flying glass but was not seriously injured.***"
