    • In 1900 the census lists her parents George Schnaufer, 58, "Annie M. L.," 48, and the following Missouri-born children: "Josephene C," 23, born Aug 1876; Henry E, 21, born Nov 1878; "Girtie M," 19, born May 1881; and Jacob V, 11, born Oct 1888. 1900 U.S. Census, Bethel Twsp, Shelby Cnty, MO (T 623, Roll 903, stamped p. 2 B).
    • The 1920 census shows Josephine, 43, living with her brother "H. E. Schnaufer," 41, and her mother Anna, 63. They lived next door to her brother "J. E." and his family. 1920 U.S. Census, Bethel, Shelby Cnty, MO (T 625, Roll 963, stamped p. 8 B).
    • Her mother's obituary, Hannibal [MO] Evening Courier Post (6 Mar 1935), states in part:
      "Mrs Anna Schnaufer, ... died ... last night [5 Mar] at 6, at the age of 78. ***
      "Mrs Schnaufer is survived by two daughters and two sons: Mrs William Nolte of near Bethel, Miss Josephine, Edward and J E Schnaufer, who live at the family home...."
